Project Overview
The Sundance Residential Development, located in Elbert County, Colorado, is a large-scale community infrastructure project focused on delivering essential underground utilities and site development for a growing residential area.
Designed to support new housing construction and long-term community growth, the project includes the installation of critical infrastructure such as water, sewer, and storm drainage systems, ensuring reliable service for future residents. This development plays a key role in expanding residential capacity while maintaining modern infrastructure standards and environmental compliance.
Scope of Work
Black Mountain Excavation was responsible for underground utility installation and site development, supporting the foundation of the residential buildout.
Our scope included trenching, installation of water and sewer lines, storm drainage systems, and structural backfill, along with grading and preparation of the site for future roadway and lot development. Our team ensured all utilities were installed to precise specifications, meeting both municipal requirements and engineering standards.
In addition, we performed mass grading, overlot grading, and material balancing, creating a properly prepared site for vertical construction and roadway infrastructure.
Challenges & Solutions
One of the primary challenges of this project was coordinating multiple underground utility systems within a developing residential layout, requiring strict adherence to elevations, spacing, and tie-in points.
Our team utilized detailed planning, GPS machine control, and experienced field supervision to ensure accurate installation and proper sequencing of utilities. Working in a developing subdivision environment also required flexibility and coordination with multiple trades to maintain progress while minimizing disruption.
By maintaining strong communication and field efficiency, we were able to keep the project moving forward while ensuring quality, safety, and compliance at every stage.
Timeline & Budget
Black Mountain Excavation completed its scope on schedule through efficient project management and disciplined field execution. Our team maintained consistent production while adapting to evolving site conditions and coordinating with other contractors involved in the development.
Impact & Future
The Sundance Residential Development will provide essential infrastructure to support long-term community growth in Elbert County. By delivering reliable underground utilities and properly prepared building sites, this project lays the groundwork for safe, functional, and sustainable residential expansion. This project highlights Black Mountain Excavation’s ability to execute underground utility and residential development projects with precision, efficiency, and a strong commitment to quality, reinforcing our role as a trusted partner in both civil infrastructure and community development.
